As of yesterday (29th July 2024), OONI data suggests that access to the DuckDuckGo website (duckduckgo.com
) is blocked in Indonesia on at least four networks. This block was reported by digital rights organizations in the region, who shared OONI data on the block and encouraged further OONI Probe testing.
The following chart aggregates OONI measurement coverage from the testing of duckduckgo.com
in Indonesia between 30th June 2024 to 30th July 2024.
duckduckgo.com
in Indonesia between 30th June 2024 to 30th July 2024 on AS63859 (Eka Mas Republik), AS24203 (Axiata), AS4761 (INDOSAT) , AS7713 (Telekomunikasi Indonesia) networks (source: OONI data). As can be seen on the chart, most measurements for duckduckgo.com
result in confirmed blocked since 29th July 2024. Based on OONI’s methodology, we are able to automatically confirm the blocking of websites based on fingerprints when a block page is served, or when DNS resolution returns an IP associated with censorship.
While DuckDuckGo was previously accessible on the AS63859 (Eka Mas Republik), AS24203 (Axiata), AS4761 (INDOSAT) , AS7713 (Telekomunikasi Indonesia) networks, most measurements from 29th July 2024 show that IP addresses returned as part of DNS resolution (36.86.63.185, 118.98.96.151, 158.140.186.3, 114.6.128.8, 99.83.188.13, 75.2.41.216) are associated with censorship. Notably, IPs like 158.140.186.3
and 99.83.188.13
even host block pages, which clearly communicate that access is intentionally blocked. This indicates that the DuckDuckGo search engine was intentionally blocked on (at least) these four networks.
If you are in Indonesia, you can contribute more measurements by running OONI Probe.
