On 28th March 2025, OONI data shows that Türkiye started blocking access to Boykotyap – a platform created by the opposition Republican People’s Party (RPP) on 25th March 2025 to coordinate the boycott of organizations that did not support the protests against the arrest of İmamoğlu, opposition leader and mayor of Istanbul. On 27th March 2025, the Ankara 4th Criminal Court of Peace issued an order to block the Boykotyap platform.
The following chart aggregates OONI measurement coverage from the testing of boykotyap.com
in Türkiye between 27th March 2025 to 3rd April 2025.
boykotyap.com
in Türkiye between 27th March 2025 to 3rd April 2025 (source: OONI data). As can be seen on the chart, many OONI measurements for boykotyap.com
were automatically annotated as “confirmed blocked” since 28th March 2025. Based on OONI’s methodology, we are able to automatically confirm the blocking of websites based on fingerprints when a block page is served, or when DNS resolution returns an IP associated with censorship.
As boykotyap.com
was only added to the Turkish test list on 28th March 2025, OONI measurements from the testing of this site are only available from that date onwards. While we do not know if the website was accessible before this date, most measurements after 28th March 2025 show that the IP address returned as part of DNS resolution (195.175.254.2) is owned by Turk Telecom and is associated with censorship.
This indicates that the Boykotyap platform was intentionally blocked on (at least) five networks where we see confirmed blocked measurements. Recent OONI data suggests that the block remains ongoing.
